Matthew Hitesman
Matt’s passion for glasswork began when he was only eight years. To help Matt with his boredom while he was confined in a body cast, a kind artist taught Matt his closely held techniques for making glass beads. It was a great gift. Matt was able to entertain himself, make the beads, and delight many family members and neighbors with his necklaces.
Although his course of study was Hospital Administration at the University of Utah and he earned an MBA from the University of Phoenix, Matt’s primary work is in the medical field, while using art as a creative outlet. He is often found working with his photography, stone, pottery, and wood.
Glass, as a medium, became a focus in 2007. When his family brought him a lampwork marble from a vacation, his interest was sparked. He is fascinated by the blend of science, creativity, and skill that glasswork entails. He has been self-taught, using books, magazines, and DVD’s.
Starting with small beads, his work has expanded to marbles, paperweights, and small sculpture pieces using borosilicate glass.
