Are you an artist seeking gallery representation? Local Colors of Utah is always interested in reviewing the fine art work of emerging or established artists. Here are the details:
Local Colors is a cooperative gallery that is operated by the artists.
Each artist works two-four 4-hour shifts per month and pays monthly rent that covers the building lease and utilities. We participate in making decisions for the gallery and each artist is asked to work on a committee (such as publicity or new artist jury).
The gallery takes 30% commission. Each artist receives 70% commission on sales of their own work.
Each artist has a featured show once a year. The gallery promotes the featured shows, each artist is encouraged to promote his/her show on their own website and social media pages as well. Local Colors is a member of the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll Association and participates in the monthly Salt Lake Gallery Stroll. Local Colors is also a member of the Sugar House Art Walk which sponsors monthly art walks 10 times a year. The featured artists are responsible for hanging / displaying their own shows for their featured month, being present for the duration of the Gallery Stroll night and Art Walk during their featured month, and for coordinating refreshments for both Art Walk and Gallery Stroll night (though other artists will frequently contribute to the refreshments).
Each artist has a bio page and photo gallery on the Local Colors website and will have the option to sell their work online receiving 100% of their sales. The artist is solely responsible for their own online transactions.
There is a one-time membership fee which is non-refundable. A deposit is also required, but fully refundable upon completion of the contract. 60-day notice is required for full refund of your deposit. If an artist doesn’t have enough cash to cover the up-front fees, the artist may work out a payment plan with the gallery.
Initial contract is for a twelve-month period. After that initial term, the artist may stay with the gallery on a month-to-month basis at their discretion. We request a 60-day verbal notice to the Co-op President if an artist intends to leave the gallery.
To apply: Submit 5-6 digital images of your work (or a link to your website where images can be viewed) along with your name, contact information, and a brief description of your work to email@example.com. You may also include an artist resume, bio, and or artist statement if you wish.
